Spirit distilled from cider or perry, not from macerated fruit. Calvados is its best-known Norman expression; Brittany, Maine and Norman perry carry geographical indications of their own.
The thing to remember
The difference from a fruit spirit is technical: here a drink that has already fermented is distilled, not a fruit.
